Reid, managing partner at Weiland Farms, overseas day-to-day operations on the farm and ensures the farm's mission is brought to life. He leads all land management and acquisition efforts, as well as manages human resources, marketing and strategic development.
Reid Weiland is managing partner at Weiland Farms. Passionate about sustainable crop production and agricultural innovation, Reid is focused on ensuring that the farm’s mission of optimizing the intersection between land, crop and Mother Nature is brought to life.
Reid grew up watching his father, Don Weiland, maintain the family farming tradition by raising a variety of cash crops and livestock. After earning his degree in agriculture business from Iowa State University, Reid spent several years in Brazil working with American investors and Brazilian farmers to raise peanuts, soybeans, rice and cattle. In 2009, Reid moved back to his hometown in Iowa to lead the management of his family’s farm.
Today, Reid and the Weiland Farms team focus on three areas: providing unique farmland investment and management opportunities to land investors and farmers; partnering with ag startups and agricultural product development companies to test and refine their products; and working closely with food manufacturing companies to grow identify preserved (IP) crops tailored to their precise specifications.
“We have built and continue to evolve a professional farming organization that can manage a myriad of weather risks, operational complexity and agronomic challenges, and that can deliver the end product efficiently and sustainably,” says Reid.
Reid is an alumnus of the Iowa State Drainage School at Iowa State University and The Executive Program for Agricultural Producers (TEPAP), an agribusiness program based out of Texas A&M University. Additionally, he maintains a membership with the Association of Agricultural Production Executives (AAPEX) based out of Purdue University. He also serves as a Landus Farmer Ambassador, a select peer group of farmer-owners responsible for providing feedback to the company’s executive team and board, networking and increasing farmer engagement while supporting Landus in the marketplace. Additionally, Reid is the Board Chair of Garner Community Christian Child Care, a non-profit, non-denominational community-focused childcare program for infants through children age 10.
Reid resides in north-central Iowa with his wife, Carla, their three children, and their dog, Max.
