Reid Weiland featured on "Top Producer" podcast
Reid Weiland talks to Paul Neiffer about why landowners need a pedigree, Weiland Farm's focus on infrastructure to grow and become more efficient, and Reid's time farming in Brazil
In episode 164 on Farm Journal's "Top Producer" podcast, Reid Weiland, managing partner of Weiland Farms, joins Paul Neiffer to discuss why landowners deserve a field pedigree, Weiland Farm's focus on infrastructure to drive growth and efficiency, and Reid's experiences farming in Brazil.
"The pedigree is evidence of the productivity and how that's been achieved," says Reid. "How has the land been farmed? What have the yields been? What are the soil types and fertility levels? Has there been 10 years of corn, and it has rootworms in it? Creating a pedigree is documenting that productive and operating history so that when you make a million-dollar investment, you can go into it with eyes wide open." (Timestamp around the 22-minute mark)
He adds, "As land gets more expensive, having that pedigree and understanding what you're really buying... Is this land going to underperform for five years while I get it straightened out, or is it ready to jump off the blocks?"
